In the final days of the fall sports regular season, many of Oyster River’s teams are gearing up to make a playoff run.
This is part one of two, focusing on the first set of playoff games, which are boys and girls cross country, golf, and field hockey. Part two will be posted on Monday, focusing on boys and girls soccer, football, unified soccer, and volleyball.
Boys Cross Country
The boys cross country teams races in the NHIAA Division 2 championship, at Derryfield Park in Manchester, on Saturday 10/26 at 10:40 am.

As of the last state rankings released on 10/21, the boys cross country team is 6th in their division, division 2. The team is led by a group of talented upperclassmen, including Myles Carrico (‘20), Owen Fleischer (‘21), and Andy O’ Brien (‘21), who consistently run the fastest times for the Bobcats. “Coe-Brown is ranked 28th in the entire country right now, but if we have a good day we can take them down,” said Fleischer. The team will race against the top division teams, for the state title.
With a strong performance, they’ll move on to the Meet of Champions on November 2nd at Mines Falls in Nashua.
Girls Cross Country
The girls cross country team competes in the NHIAA Division 2 championship on Saturday 10/26 at 10 am at Derryfield Park in Manchester.

The girls cross country team didn’t find their way into the top 10 this season, but they hope to do well in the meet on Saturday to change the tone of the season. Their top runners this year are Lily Doody (‘20), Marlee Yoder (‘21), and Sophie Sullivan (‘21). “We weren’t always at our best this year, but if we can move past that and run well this weekend, it’ll be exciting,” said Sullivan.
If the team runs well, they’ll move on to the Meet of Champions on November 2nd at Mines Falls in Nashua.
Golf
The golf team’s state championship was set for 10/15. It was cancelled, and the team was given third place, due to a rule letting the first place team win.

This year’s golf team had a very strong season. The team finished the regular season ranked third in the division, with a 19-4 record. The team was led by Declan Daubney (‘20), Ty Mountain (‘20) and Jack Poitras (‘22), who were the team’s top ranked golfers this season. “All around I think we were a really good team this year,” said Daubney. “We had a lot of solid golfers, and had some good matches.” The season ended with a cancelled state meet, resulting in an automatic third place finish, due to league rules. The league’s rule for a cancellation is that whatever ranking you were in during the season, is where they rank in states.
Field Hockey

The ORHS field hockey team finished 5-9 on the year, falling short of the playoffs. This season was much more successful than past seasons for the team. The team was proud of their performance this year. Madison Cannon (‘20) was happy with the team’s performance this year. “Going into my senior year I knew that I didn’t want this year to be anything like the past years, and I know the rest of the seniors would agree. We didn’t make the playoffs, but we definitely played much better this year,” said Cannon.
